Baby girl – check. Halfway there – check.

After a long hard-fought battle over which I had direct control, we have confirmed that BabyFree is indeed a girl, which will bring the boy-girl count in our house to 4-2 once she is born. Phew. The nurse commented that Tim will make a good “girl dad.” I’m sure she says that to everyone, but I think she’s probably right because he is a pretty nice, gentle guy. (He’s nicer than me at least.) We’re also now at the 20-week mark, i.e. the halfway point. I’m sure the second half is going to be the easy half, so it should be smooth sailing from here (ignorance is bliss, right?).

At our 20 week appointment we did the big sonogram where they check out all the organs and limbs and make sure everything is developing as it should, which thankfully it is.  During the sonogram they also switched to 3D view a lot, which we didn’t know we were going to get to do so that was a really cool surprise. They gave us a video with some of the sonogram on it, but pictures are easier to post (and less boring for those who aren’t interested in seeing 5 minutes of blurry blob footage as they try to get the right angle to determine gender).  When the sonographer first switched to 3D view, of course our baby was covering her face with her hands and after a few seconds even gave us a shot of this questionable hand gesture:

She must have learned that from her dad! Clearly she already has some attitude. Also take note of the fact that she doesn't actually have a black hole in the right side of her head, because for some reason in the rest of the photos it looks like she does. Here are a few shots we did finally get without her hands (and middle finger) in the way:

I’m happy to say she seems to be looking much less alien-like since the last time we saw her. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be seeing her again until the final sonogram a few weeks before the due date, so in the meantime I guess we'll just watch the video over and over to keep ourselves entertained.
